MLM is a good place to look. If you do it right, you can become financially free. Possibly even very wealthy. However, many people believe the hype and jump into something before they know what they are getting into. No matter what you hear, MLM is not designed for making big money quickly. You can make money in a short time, but true wealth from MLM takes time to build. It comes from product sales to your downline team and their customers. That’s why most people get into an MLM business. They are looking for a long-term solution; one with a consistent and continuing income.

One big thing that has to be right is your mindset. Network Marketers call this “your why”. If you don’t know why you are doing this, and if it isn’t strong enough to motivate you every day, your chance of success will be diminished. Examples of a “why” would be funding a retirement for you and your spouse, college funds for your kids, charity work, getting out of debt, etc.

Finding the right Network Marketing opportunity is another thing that must be right. This is not a religion, so there isn’t just one company that will be right; there could be several. But there might be one niche that is right for you, such as health and nutrition, or saving people money. Investigate each company you are interested in carefully.

The right sponsor is important. Do they care about you and your success, or are they just looking for another rep to plug into a downline? If there are hundreds of people in a sponsor’s downline, you will probably need someone closer to your level to be your mentor. Also, what marketing method does your sponsor use? You should know something about traditional MLM marketing and Attraction Marketing before you choose a sponsor. It is usually best if you and your sponsor are on the same marketing page.

Understand the concept of Massive Action. If you just dabble, your income will dribble. I’m sure that a dribbling income is not why you want a home based business. Talk to your potential sponsor about massive action. How will they help you to do this?

1. Stay inside your “circle of competence”: the investor Warren Buffett avoids making investments outside his “circle of competence”. Starting something new, venturing into a new market requires competence that the existing small business owner may not have. Stick to the knitting in bad times.

2. Keep focused on cash flow: When the cash dries up, the game is over. In hard economic times its important to monitor cash flow more frequently, if not daily. Set up a simple system and watch your cash like a hawk. Big customers want to take ever forever to pay and suppliers want their money now. This makes it vital to manage cash carefully.

3. Don’t sign sureties: when cash runs out, the temptation is to go to the bank to increase your overdraft. Don’t sign sureties that for a small loan require confiscation of all your business and personal assets. Enough said.

4. Temptation: Act ethically at all times: even what may seem harmless will become a major issue if it involves and an unethical business practice.
